Has Your Boss Ever Pitted You Against a Co-Worker?
On this week’s Rachel Zoe Project , Rachel makes a questionable management move and invites Brad and Taylor to Paris before realizing one of them is going to have to stay behind at the studio. When she becomes aware of her mistake, she tells them they should decide amongst themselves who will go, thinking Brad will volunteer to stay home. The suggestion immediately becomes an issue for Brad and Taylor. Taylor tells Brad she thinks Rachel is testing him, Brad calls Rachel and says he doesn’t like being tested. Rachel says she doesn’t have time to deal with it, and Taylor should make the call. Big time drama! Thankfully, Taylor ends up suggesting Brad go, but the dilemma comes off as completely dysfunctional because it pits the two co-workers against one another. As BuzzSugar notes , “Rachel needed to be able to woman up and just make a boss decision.” Has your manager ever delegated a big decision to you and your co-workers because she didn’t want to make it? Want to talk more about the workplace antics in the episode

Full StoryTufts to Dorm Dwellers: Get a Room!
Tufts University has just instituted a policy you’d think wouldn’t need to be an official rule: don’t have sex in your dorm room while your roommate’s present, and don’t “sexile” (sex + exile) your roommate, say at 3 a.m., because you want to get it on with your college sweetheart (or random hookup). So basically, if you’re dwelling in a dorm, either have enough money to get a hotel room, find a comfy broom closet if passion strikes, or go without. The Tufts policy arose because students were complaining that their horny roommates were intruding on their privacy and interfering with their studies by either having sex while they were present (ewww!) or asking them to leave for a few minutes. I am so glad I never stayed in a dorm - I just moved in with the boyfriend when I was in college! Problem solved. How was dorm sex negotiated when you were in college?
Full StoryComing Soon to a Theater Near You: Reel Rock
I was lucky enough to hit the Reel Rock Film Tour - an annual showcase of the best new films about climbing - when it passed through San Francisco this weekend. Highlights of the festival include the world premiere of Progression and a preview of First Ascent , a new series for the Nat Geo Adventure Channel . Climber or not, the Reel Rock festival is a must see for adrenaline junkies, outdoor enthusiasts, film lovers, and those seeking some kick ass motivation. Beautifully shot in locations around the world like Patagonia and Yosemite , the films follow the emotional and physical journeys of the sports’ top athletes as they push themselves to the extreme. There were definitely more than a few heart stopping moments where I stared at the screen mouth gaping in disbelief of what I was watching. To see clips from the films, read more. One of the crazier stories chronicles Alex Honnold’s free solo (meaning no ropes or gear) of Half Dome in Yosemite. Honnold climbed about 2200 feet alone and unprotected in just a matter of hours. I’m sure many will view Honnold’s feat as being just plain careless but watching his story was an incredible look at the intense mental aspect of the sport and just how far these athletes will take themselves in the name of progression. Reel Rock is just underway and chances are it’s coming to a city near you - don’t miss it! The films highlight some of the strongest athletes you’ll ever see and brings to light a relatively unknown sport in an accessible way
Full StoryWhy We Overeat: Stress
If you find that you overeat throughout your day, but have ruled out excessive tiredness as the cause, then you may be reaching for fattening foods because you’re stressed out. According to Health magazine, chronic stress causes your body to create cortisol and insulin. These hormones increase your appetite for comfort foods which tend to be high in fat, sugar, and salt. Eating these types of foods can make you lethargic and also lead to weight gain. If you’re already overweight, fat cells produce cortisol as well, so you produce even more of this appetite-raising hormone. To help break the stress cycle that has you reaching for a pint of Ben and Jerry’s, you need to figure out the causes of your stress and work on decreasing them. Talk to your boss about your workload if it’s too much, or if money issues are plaguing your brain make an appointment with a financial consultant. You can also micromanage your daily stress by exercising to clear your mind, taking a break from work to sip a hot cup of tea, or getting a tension-relieving massage. Make these stress-busters a part of your daily schedule and you’ll not only feel calmer, but your urge to overindulge will wane too

Full StoryPush-Up Variation: Crocodile Jumps
I love push-ups . They are one of the best strength training moves out there. Not only do they sculpt your upper body and back, but they also tone your core. Here’s a variation that will target your triceps more than regular push-ups since your elbows are in against your body instead of out wide. This exercise will make you stronger, and it’s also a great prep for the yoga pose called Crocodile. Music: “The Man Who Danced Too Slowly” by Baka Beyond This is a pretty difficult exercise, so if you’re up for the challenge keep reading
Full StoryYou Asked: Bad to Leave Yoga Class Early?
Dear Fit, I’ve been taking a yoga class for about a year with this amazing instructor. We’re always trying new poses and I’m soaked with sweat by the end from moving around so much. Plus the next day, I’m really sore so I know I’m working hard. I’ve been leaving class a little early since the last 10 minutes we just lie on the floor. The last class I went to, the instructor came up to me as I was leaving and said, “I know you’ve been practicing for a while, and you know what your body needs, but Savasana isn’t really optional.” I’m wondering what’s the point of Savasana? Am I doing my body harm by skipping out, or do you think the instructor just doesn’t like me leaving early? - Not a Fan of Savasana Sarah I teach and take a lot of yoga classes, and this is a really common question. To find out my take on Savasana read more. The last pose of class may seem like you’re just lying on the floor wasting time, but this relaxing posture is actually really important. Savasana , known as Corpse pose, is a metaphor for dying and then coming back to life.
